SUMMARY OF PROCEDURES
FOR SOURCE IDENTIFYING WILDLAND COLLECTED SEED
1.
Collector or seed
broker/conditioner files Pre-Collection Application and obtains appropriate
land management agency permits or private property permission letters.
2.
Seed broker/conditioner
must a) accept only seed amounts covered by permits/permission, b) check field
lot numbers on the bags, c) sample the uncleaned field lot and put into the
UCIA sample envelope provided, d) obtain a harvest site map or GPS reading from
the collector, e) complete and sign the Site Identification Log (and Addendum
if needed) for each conditioner lot and f) maintain individual field lot
identity until approval is given by a UCIA representative to blend them into a
conditioner lot.
3.
Cleaning and maintenance
of seed conditioning equipment must follow UCIA guidelines to prevent
species/lot contamination. The
cleaned seed shall be sampled, and the sample may be sent to an official seed
testing laboratory under the direction of a UCIA representative.
4.
After verification of
the harvest site and paper trail for transporting, storing, conditioning, and
sampling of uncleaned and cleaned seed, tags will be issued and attached to
bags under the direction of a UCIA representative.
NOTE: The current (updated June 18, 2002) Pre-Collection Application and Source Identification Logs (Part I and II) are included in the back of this Directory.
